About Dr. Joanne Getsy

Dr. Joanne Getsy is a professor emerita of medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. Getsy completed her internship, residency and fellowships in pulmonary disease and sleep medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

During that time, she evaluated many patients with mesothelioma. The American College of Chest Physicians awarded Getsy the prestigious Governors’ Community Service Award for her project on providing CPAP machines to the underprivileged.

She also has authored numerous articles on sleep disorders and continues to pursue research in the association between sleep apnea and lung diseases.
